Jonathan Arnold is a Principal at Vertical Research Partners covering Utilities and Power. He has covered stocks in the US, Latin America and Europe, most recently leading the Deutsche Bank utilities team in New York for 10 years and previously as an anchor member of the perennially top-rated Merrill Lynch team. Earlier in his career, Jonathan covered Latin American utilities for Santander Investment and JP Morgan, also serving as regional head of research at Santander. Originally from the UK, Jonathan began his research career in London covering Insurance Brokers and the Lloyd’s market with S.G. Warburg Securities.
Jonathan is highly regarded by utility executives and the investment community. He is known as an independent voice and thought leader, recognized for timely and relevant coverage of key corporate and emerging industry issues. Throughout his career Jonathan has been recognized as a leading analyst in external investor surveys. He has also been ranked as a top-three stock picker by Starmine (2019) and number one for earnings estimates (2015). Jonathan is an active member of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Wall Street Advisory Group, the Wall Street Utility Group, and the EEI ESG/Sustainability Investor Group.
Jonathan received his BA and MA from the University of Cambridge in the UK where he studied Modern & Medieval Languages and History of Art. He and his wife, Lise, reside in Connecticut with their three sons. When not working on research or keeping up with his children’s activities, Jonathan enjoys sailing, skiing, reading and foreign travel.
